A short, but unfortunately overnight, flight from Perth saw us booking into a hotel in Singapore (not Raffles) before breakfast. We spent two days wandering the city, enjoying the enforced meals out, browsing the various Arabic, Indian and Chinese markets, but shopping was off limits as our luggage had come in at just 1 kg below our allowance!

Fairly arbitarily, we chose to take a bus to Malacca for a day or two en route to Kuala Lumpur. However, we enjoyed the beautiful 'UNESCO World Heritage' town, and in particular our lovely hotel in old Chinatown, so much that we stayed there for all 5 days until our flight out of KL to Bangkok. Much of Malacca's charm lies in its history as an important trading post and its successive colonial occupation by the Arabs, Portugese, Dutch and British. Along with the native Malays, throw in a touch of Indian and Chinese influence, and the variety of food was endless.
In between all the eating and relaxing, we found a little time for tourism including a boat trip on the river and 'Duck boat' ride through the town and out into the Malacca Straits. The only wildlife of interest were several very large monitor lizards, which the girls instantly identified, having watched Bear Grylls catch, roast and eat one the night before on TV.
With two happy girls, we embarked on the final leg of our holiday - Bangkok. We only had one full day in the city and despite the perpetual rain we managed to fit in a temple or two, a local market, a unique playground called a 'jellyfish' and even a Thai massage for Tony.
